Apple’s AirPods are without a doubt one of the most popular wireless earbuds on the market right now. It’s easy to see why so many people have fallen in love with them. They look great and are easy to use. If you want to buy a new pair of AirPods, you might not know which ones to get. AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro are two options that people like.
Let’s look at what’s so great about these earbuds and decide if they’re worth the price. We’ll look at how it fits, how the sound is, how long the battery lasts, and more. The most important thing is that we’ll look at how well they block out noise and see if they live up to the hype.
What makes AirPods 3 different from AirPods Pro? The biggest differences between the two models come down to these:
- Fit and Comfort: How they fit in your ears and how they feel.
- Controls: Playback controls are built into the stem to make it easy to use.
- How do the AirPods sound? Which ones are best for music and phone calls?
- Noise Cancellation: Whether or not you want noise cancellation.
- The battery life, spatial audio, Siri, and more are some of the other features.
- AirPods 3 cost $179, while AirPods Pro cost $249.
Fit and Comfort: AirPods 3 vs. AirPods Pro
Fit and comfort are up to each person when it comes to wireless earbuds. The AirPods Pro tries to solve the problem of the one-size-fits-all model by letting you change the ear tips. The Pro comes with three different sizes of silicone ear tips—small, medium, and large. If your ear canals are small, the tips might not fit as tightly as you need them to. You might want to buy foam tips to make the fit more secure. They also help make a good seal and block more sound.
If you don’t like in-ear headphones and are worried that the extra pressure of silicone ear tips might make them uncomfortable, you should skip the AirPods Pro and go for the AirPods (3rd Generation), also called AirPods 3. They fit about the same as the first and second versions of AirPods. They rest on the outside of the ear instead of in the ear canal. This may make them more comfortable. But the design is a little bit different from older AirPods.
The 3rd generation of AirPods is more rounded than the 2nd generation. It fits perfectly in small ears. As far as comfort goes, I haven’t had any problems. I have been able to wear them for long periods of time without any pain. Apple’s one-size-fits-all design, on the other hand, will make some people feel the exact opposite. When I took them jogging, I found that one of the earbuds fit well, but the other one needed a little tweaking to feel safe. Depending on the size and shape of your outer ear, your experience may be different.
Touch Controls on the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro
The controls on both AirPods are very similar. The stems are shorter than on any Apple AirPods that came before them. People with longer hair may like this because it makes it less likely that they will accidentally pull the earbuds out of their ears. More important than how you use the earbuds is how you use them. A force sensor is used to make them work. Both AirPods have a stem that you can click to change tracks, take calls, play and pause music, and more.
The AirPods Pro are the easiest to use when I need to touch the stem. To put it simply, the interchangeable tip feels safer. So, when I click the stem, the earbud doesn’t move as much as it does with the AirPods 3. When I click, change tracks, and so on, the Pro doesn’t move.
AirPods 3 vs. AirPods Pro: Which One Has Better Sound?
Sound quality is one of the most important things about wireless earbuds. Find out how to fix AirPods that are too quiet. I was really surprised by how similar the AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 sounded overall. When I listened to different kinds of music, both AirPods worked well, but there was a clear winner.
I wore the AirPods Pro and listened to pop songs with lots of synthesized instruments. I noticed that in general, it sounded a little bit richer and fuller than the AirPod 3. There was also a bit more space for the vocals to breathe. The same is true for women who sing R&B. When I used the AirPods 3, I could hear some harsh sounds in the vocals. The lyrics were clearer on the AirPods Pro. When I listened to funk and jazz with many instruments, the brass section was much easier to hear on the AirPods Pro than on the AirPods 3. Even though they still sounded great, there wasn’t as much definition.
I liked the bass on the AirPods Pro, but I thought the bass on the AirPods 3 was just as good. I used both AirPods to listen to hip-hop, and I could hear the bass thump. They were both great. Both earbuds have an Adaptive EQ feature that changes the low and mid frequencies of your music based on things like how well the earbuds fit in your ears. This is very important to know if you want to buy the AirPods 3. The Adaptive EQ can make everyone on the same level.
Active noise cancellation on both the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro
Another important thing to think about is whether or not you want active noise cancellation. The AirPods Pro have two layers that cancel out noise. If you want to think about it that way. The first layer of noise cancellation is made by the seal on the ear tip. It blocks some outside sounds and adds a layer of passive noise cancellation. The Pro also has an active noise cancellation feature that blocks out certain frequencies. It’s useful for getting to work and traveling by plane or public transportation.
The AirPods 3 don’t have noise cancellation that works actively. So, if you’re in a noisy place, you may need to turn up the volume a bit more to hear your audio. The Pro has a mode that makes things transparent. This mode lets you hear sounds from outside, making you more aware of what’s going on around you. The AirPods 3 don’t have a mode that lets you see through them. But if you think about it, the fact that it doesn’t have a seal might be on purpose. Because of this, you hear a lot more sound, so you don’t need a transparency mode. Find out what the differences are between the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 and the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds.
AirPods 3 vs. AirPods Pro: Which Have a Better Microphone?
When it comes to AirPods, you shouldn’t forget about how well the microphone works. People are using their AirPods to talk on the phone more and more often these days. Both the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro have a great microphone, which is great. Both do a great job of picking up the important range of frequencies between 100Hz and 3000Hz that make up the human voice.
The calls made with the AirPods 3 were clear. The Pro, on the other hand, picked up more noise in the background. Given that, you shouldn’t have any problems with the quality of your calls. Sidetone is one thing I’d like to see in the next generation of AirPods. With the Sidetone feature, when you talk into the microphone, you can hear your own voice in the earbuds. With this feature, you can control how loud you speak and avoid shouting.
The battery life of the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro
At a moderate volume level, or 50, the AirPods 3 will let you listen for about 6 hours. With active noise cancellation turned on, the AirPods Pro can last up to 5 hours, or 4 hours and 30 minutes. But those are the test numbers for Apple. In real-world tests, I found that the AirPods Pro may be able to block out noise for closer to five hours. When they were brand new and still in the box, the cases themselves had an extra charge in them. The AirPods Pro take 24 hours to charge all the way up. The AirPods 3 case takes 30 hours to fully charge. Any standard Qi wireless charging pad can be used to charge either case.
Features of the AirPods 3 vs. the AirPods Pro
Now let’s look at the other things that all of these earbuds have in common. It’s a lot more than you might think. You won’t miss out on many extra features if you choose the 3 over the Pro.
Apple’s Siri voice assistant can be controlled without using your hands. You can tell Siri to “Send a message,” “Play,” or “Pause” music by saying “Hey, Siri.” Since none of these earbuds have a physical volume control, you can also tell Siri to change the sound level. You can also have text messages read to you and answer with your voice. Both models have the same thing.
Spatial audio and head tracking in real time
They both have spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, which is another thing they have in common. This feature lets you listen to music, movies, and TV shows that support it in certain apps with virtual surround sound. I thought the AirPods Pro sounded a little more real than the AirPods 3 when watching action-adventure movies on Apple TV. The Pro showed the sound position of moving objects more accurately than the 3. Dynamic head tracking is another part of spatial audio. It makes it possible for music to seem to move around as you move your head. Both models have good head tracking that moves with the head.
Look for My Feature
Using “Find My,” you can put your AirPods on a map to find them. You can also play a tone when they are close and paired with your earbuds to help you find them. Both the AirPods Pro and the AirPods 3 have the “Find My” feature. With this feature, you can use the app on your phone to see where they were last, mark them as lost, get separation alerts, and track their location close by.
Dual Optical Sensors and a Skin-Detect Sensor
When you take one AirPod out of your ear, the music stops on both. You can also use them on their own to listen to music or talk on the phone. The AirPods Pro don’t have some of the features that the AirPods 3 do. A “skin-detect sensor” is the name for it. The sensor can tell with great accuracy if the AirPods are in your ear. It can tell if your earbuds are in your ears instead of on a table or in your pocket. Because of this, it will help save the life of your battery. This feature will stop playing if you put them in your pocket for a minute while you do something else. This will help the battery last longer overall.
The AirPods Pro don’t have skin-detect sensors; instead, they have two optical sensors that can tell if they are in the user’s ear. Even though the optical sensors do the same thing, they can only tell when they are against a surface or covered up. They can’t tell when they are exactly against the skin. This means that an AirPods Pro earpiece could start playing again if you put it in your pocket or on a flat surface. It will be interesting to see what other ideas Apple has for the skin-detect sensor in the future. Maybe some future apps for fitness?
Let’s look at what IPX4 means for both of these earbuds. That means they can handle being splashed and getting wet. The cases are the only thing that makes the AirPods 3 less durable than the AirPods Pro. They look like the same thing. They aren’t, though. The AirPods 3 MagSafe Charging Case is resistant to water and sweat, but the AirPods Pro case is not.
Which is better: AirPods 3 or AirPods Pro?
So, there you have it. Hopefully, you now know enough about the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro to decide which one is best for you. So, are the AirPods 3 better than the AirPods Pro? I would choose the AirPods Pro if I had to choose. I like that the Pro has noise cancellation and that you can change the tips on the earbuds to make them fit your ears better. I also like the foam tips from third parties. Should you buy the AirPods 3? On the other hand, calls made with the AirPods 3 sound great. During my tests, it did about as well as the AirPods Pro. So, if call quality is the most important thing to you, that could help you decide.
